Hudsonville Harvey Street Woonerf

City of Hudsonville
Hudsonville, MI

Project Overview

F&V and FVC were hired by the City to provide engineering and construction management services to construct the Harvey Street extension and streetscape project to create a distinctive, livable, vibrant, and connected City.

F&V designed Harvey Street with a woonerf concept – a term from the Netherlands which means, “shared” or “living” street that prioritizes the pedestrian experience. It is intended to transform the street from car prioritized space to a shared space for all modes of transport, including cars, bicycles, and pedestrians. Harvey Street was extended to the east to intersect with the Terra Square Farmers Market. This shared use connector provides fun seating areas, splash pad, bike racks, art, permeable paver drives, decorative stamped concrete, tree bisques, decorative street lighting, and festoon lights, creating an interactive area for people to socialize and hang out before grabbing a bite to eat or shopping in the City’s downtown area.

As construction manager, FVC held all contracts. The use of open-book, designer-led construction allowed significant additional control over cost, schedule and quality, customizing the project delivery details as needed for the overall project.
